THE BEST OF SMALL-TOWN AMERICA
The picturesque town square in Fayetteville thrives as the hub of activity in the town, with boutiques and stores offering a wide range of products, as well as restaurants, a historic movie theatre and professional services. The area is rich in history, and the Lincoln County Museum contains a large variety of items and artifacts from days gone by including an enormous arrowhead collection, military artifacts, and medical and agriculture exhibits. The Chamber of Commerce also sponsors a walking tour of Fayetteville's lovely historic homes.
Whatever your interest, you will find a group that shares your passions in Lincoln County. Some of our associations include the Livestock Association, Literacy Council, Humane Society, Pilot Club, Garden Club, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Elk River Forestry Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Association of Retarded Citizens. Elk Valley Car Club, Main Street Association, and Elk Valley Crafters. There are dozens of others. For those interested in the arts, the Carriage House Players is a local acting troupe, and we also are proud to have the Denim Dusters Square Dancers and a very active Museum Association and Arts Council. For the kids, there are lots of activities as well, such as the 4-H Club, Falcon Club, Boy and Girl Scouts and numerous opportunities to learn and make friends. |
ANNUAL EVENTS The centerpiece of the year is undoubtedly the Lincoln County Fair, which has been consistently judged as one of the best local fairs in America. Traditional fair activities include shows, the carnival midway, rides and livestock, agricultural and craft exhibitions. In addition, Lincoln County's fair boasts the only horse harness racing in the State. Just after the fair each year, music lovers and Americana enthusiasts gather for the Lincoln County Bluegrass Festival, which brings musicians from all over the country to our community for two days of music and fun. Once a year, the courthouse lawn turns into a pasture for Dairy Days, which celebrate Lincoln County's rich agricultural heritage. Ice-cream eating, cow milking, butter churning, a beauty pageant and other fun activities mark this quaint festival. When the winter holidays roll around, all of Fayetteville and surrounding area becomes a winter wonderland bedecked with lights and greenery for the Host of Christmas Past, our annual celebration of old-time Yuletide joy. UNRIVALED NATURAL BEAUTY For more sophisticated tastes, the Fayetteville Golf and Country Club is a beautifully manicured course with all the amenities you would expect to find. |
